Summer is the perfect season to enjoy the great outdoors, and to use your grill to cook delicious food. One popular grilling myth is that you can only grill unhealthy foods like red meat. However, there are ways to rev up your grill while still maintaining a diet, and assuring that you eat healthy and nutritious food. One of these nutritious foods that you can grill involves a simple recipe.. Teriyaki Salmon.

First of all, it is important to address the amount of fat contained in salmon. Salmon contains a high amount of fat (about 16 grams). Maybe you believe this is bad, however it is not. This is because the fat helps boost the salmon’s nutrition value.

The Health Benefits of Teriyaki Salmon

The process of grilling will allow some of the fat from the salmon to drip off of the fish. Also, even though it seems like the fat is unhealthy, salmon contains a high amount of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids are especially relevant because they help boost heart and brain function.

If you are cautious about consuming Teriyaki sauce, due to unhealthy factors, do not worry. Like most fish, salmon contains a high amount of protein which helps burn fat. The protein can help counter any concerns you may have about the Teriyaki sauce.

Adding rice will help boost the carbohydrate amount in this meal as well. Simply spray your grill or grillpan lightly with oil, sear then glaze with sauce. Or cook in aluminum foil packets to prevent sticking.

In conclusion, Salmon and rice are a nutritious meal by themselves.  If you want to take an extra step you can throw some vegetables on the grill as well. Vegetables such as: corn on the cob, red and yellow peppers, mushrooms, and even onions can be grilled to perfection. Eat healthy this summer and enjoy your grill.
