You suddenly realize that it’s your husband’s birthday celebration next weekend, and you have promised to invite a few friends around for a Barbecue.Entertaining is often difficult when the diet comes under pressure . It is very tempting to cheat and make your life easier .

It is important that you organize a barbecue celebration that he will enjoy but you don’t want to break your diet.

Don’t panic. It is possible to have a great Barbecue and still stay within your keto diet parameters. It is even possible to draw up a menu which everyone will enjoy even those who are not following a diet. There will be no temptations to break your own diet if you only serve dishes you can enjoy as well as the hubby. The keto diet has become a popular way of life so many of your guests may be enthusiastic about tasting your options.

Snacks/Appetizers whilst you barbecue.

Bacon Guacamole Dip

3 Avocados (Hass are good for this recipe )

6 slices of Bacon – cubed

1 Tablespoon of Roasted garlic

½ Red bell pepper

½ cup finely chopped cilantro

1/3 small onion finely chopped

1 Tablespoon Fresh Lime juice

Cook the bacon in a hot pan until it is crisp. Set aside

Peel and slice the avocado. Place in a bowl. Add the roasted garlic, onion, cilantro, bell pepper, and lime juice.

Blend or mash finely.

Add the bacon bits and season to taste.

Serve with pork rinds for dipping into the guacamole.

Asparagus prosciutto wraps:– Spread a small amount of cream cheese on a slice of prosciutto. Wrap around a stem of cooked asparagus. Serve on a platter.

Baked Olives:- Bake some pitted olives tossed in olive oil and seasoned in an oven at 400 F for 15-20 minutes. Use roasted garlic/citrus zest or feta cubes to increase the flavor.


Main Course off the barbecue. 

Here are two recipes that never fail cooked on the barbecue and Keto diet friendly. Meat cooked over the coals breaks down a lot of fat so is a super healthy way to eat.

BBQ Steak

1-inch thick beef top sirloin steak approx. 1 ½ lb

Marinade :

1 Teaspoon of Black pepper ground

¼ cup lime juice-fresh.

¼ cup of salsa mild to medium not too hot.

1 Tablespoon of Olive Oil

1Tablespoon garlic finely chopped

1 Teaspoon ground cumin

Mix together in a bowl

Apply to the steak. Place the marinading steak into a closed dish. Marinade in a fridge for at least 6 hrs. Turn over the steak occasionally.

Remove the steak and discard the remaining marinade. Cook the steak over medium ash-covered coals for 15 minutes turning only once. It is important not to overcook.

After allowing the steak to rest slice and serve on a platter.

Chili lime chicken wings.

Sauce :

1 Tablespoon Olive Oil

2 Tablespoons unsalted butter

½ cup of fresh cilantro finely chopped

2 Limes: juice and zest

2 Teaspoons chili powder

1 Teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon ground cumin

½ teaspoon garlic powder

4 drops of liquid stevia.

Place all ingredients in a pot and heat until the butter melts.

Cook the chicken wings with a little salt/pepper seasoning over the coals. Once cooked, place them in a large bowl and pour over the sauce. Coat evenly.

These are best served warm.

Serve these with a simple coleslaw. For a change add in either garlic salt, chopped chives or a little mustard with the mayo.

Another vegetable option that is keto friendly and looks attractive with the mix of colors is a simple vegetable bake. Make sure you use Keto friendly vegetables like zucchini, broccoli, Red and Yellow Bell peppers, cherry tomatoes and cauliflower florets.


Keto Rich Chocolate Cake

What is a birthday celebration without a cake? Here is a recipe for a Keto Chocolate Cake which all your guests will love.

½ cup butter cubed

½ cup cream

1 cup dark chocolate (80% or higher) i.e. Lindt

4 eggs separated

4 Tablespoons stevia (sugar substitute)

Break the chocolate into pieces and melt slowly with the butter.

Add the cream and Stevia mixing thoroughly.

Add the egg yolks one at a time mixing until combined.

Whisk the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Don’t overbeat.

Fold the egg whites into the chocolate mixture. Make sure the white streaks have disappeared.

Place into a buttered 8-inch cake tin.

Bake at 325 F for 45 minutes. The cake should be set but center just slightly shaky.

Once the cake has cooled place in the refrigerator for at least 4 hrs.

Just before serving top with a few keto friendly raspberries.
