Here, we want to share with you, Two Ways you Can Impress Your Guests Cooking with Hot Rocks!

Stone Soup

Stone Soup is a European folk story in which hungry strangers convince the people of a town to each share a small amount of their food in order to make a meal that everyone enjoys, and exists as a moral regarding the value of sharing. In varying traditions, the stone has been replaced with other common inedible objects, and therefore the fable is also known as axe soup, button soup, nail soup, and wood soup.

Cooking with Hot Stones

In rural Oaxaca Mexico, it is a Tradition for the Men to Cook Stone Soup. Sounds like something from the Green Acres Show “Oooh, stone soup!” But it is actually quite delicious.

The Recipe is called Caldo de Piedra. We’ll provide a link to the recipe as we’re more focused on sharing the Heated Rocks side of this story.

Here, you need large round stones that have been soaked and washed, along with large bowls. You place the ingredients in the bowls and heat your rocks on the Grill, in the Smoker or On the Campfire.

Then, with tongs, you place the Hot Stones in your Serving Bowls with the Liquid and Ingredients to Boil. Your audience will ooh and ahh as their soup bubbles away. Be careful! It’s hot!.

Cooking Stones – Cooking with Hot Rocks

You can run out and Buy a Cooking Stone, but you can also do as your Ancestors did and search your yard for a flat surfaced Rock or Stone. Soak and Wash it thoroughly. Heat the Stone on your Grill, Smoker or Campfire and carefully bring it over to the center of your picnic table and place it on a heat resistant rack, cutting board or place mat.

The hot stone surface allows you to cook the food in front of your guests, and you can customize heat intensity according to each person’s preference.
