5 New Ways of Cooking Savory with Peanut Butter

Sometimes finding a quick and healthy snack or meal option is right there in your pantry. Tired of that classic PB & J? Change it up into a Gourmet meal.

Here’s How:

5 New Ways of Cooking with Peanut Butter

  1. Make a Stew

West African cuisine uses peanuts a lot and this creamy, hearty stew is no exception. It can be made with any kind of protein or you can stick to vegetables and use extra sweet potatoes instead. Most recipes call for about a cup of peanut butter and then additional peanuts crushed on top for garnish, making this a unique way to enjoy that delicious peanut butter flavor. In the Philippines, a popular stew called kare-kare uses peanut butter as well for a thick and savory base to add in lots of other vegetables and meat, usually oxtail. Look Here for Recipe!

    2. Go International

While America is known for the peanut butter and jelly sandwich, many other countries have a cuisine that uses peanut butter in a completely different way. Many Thai dishes incorporate peanuts and peanut butter.  Thai satay chicken is usually dipped into a spicy sauce made from peanut butter, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and Sriracha. For lighter fare, try Vietnamese summer rolls which can be filled with your favorite veggies and herbs for a fresh appetizer.  Dip them in a thick peanut sauce and make it spicy by adding fresh chilis or go sweeter by using hoisin instead. 3. Make a Different Sandwich

Although peanut butter is usually put on a sandwich with jelly, there are plenty of other sandwich options that incorporate it as well.  Combine peanut butter with some fresh sprouts for a light and refreshing sandwich or combine it with banana for a childhood favorite that is still sure to satisfy.  Swap out any fruit for the banana and try a peanut butter and apple sandwich too. Some people also love peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwiches for extra creaminess. Find other Lunch Box Ideas: Here!

    4. Eat it for Breakfast

Peanut butter is so versatile and can be used in multiple ways for a healthy and delicious breakfast.  Mix it into your oatmeal, pancake batter, or smoothie. You can also use it as a topping on top of pancakes, French toast, and waffles.  Some people also like to layer it on top of ketchup and mayonnaise with their egg sandwich for added protein.

    5. Make a Sauce

Peanut butter is the perfect dipping sauce on its own and can be used to dip fruits (banana, apples, berries) or vegetables (carrots, celery, radish).  It can also be substituted for tahini, which can be expensive or difficult to find, to make hummus. Another inventive use is to make a fondue by smoothing the peanut butter out with cream and honey and then dipping strawberries, marshmallows, and apples into the gooey sauce.

Peanut Butter is a great thickener if you run out of cornstarch or flour. There are also many other Butters available to hold in your pantry. Such as non-peanut butter (for those allergic) or Almond Butter. Certain fats are healthy for you. Those who practice the Keto Diet know these are great sources for healthy fat and protein.
