Winter Doldrums: 4 Steps to get you though the Winter

Do you have the Winter Doldrums? Each year millions of Americans get them. A period of stagnation or slump; a period of depression or unhappy listlessness.

As the days are gray and dreary, they get shorter and colder. We are spending more time indoors and are exposed to less natural sunlight. This can lead to decreased energy and a depressed mood. According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is characterized by the onset of depression during the winter, alternating with periods of normal or high mood the rest of the year. When you have depression, it can interfere with daily life and make it difficult to work, sleep, study, eat and enjoy once pleasurable activities.

Many Americans are curled up in front of the TV waiting for Spring to break. A small handful are still outside Grilling and Barbecuing. But, here’s what you can do to fight those Doldrums now:

1.Plan Your Spring Launch: Create a list of things you want to do? A spring cleanup? A new Deck? A new garden?

2. Stock Up on Supplies: Now is a great time to research and order your BBQ Supplies, Rubs and Sauces. Look up Recipes. Create a Recipe Book. Puruse the dollar stores for disposable supplies and party decor.

3. Get a Fire Pit: Although you wont be out much in the cold weather, you sure can enjoy some Smores with the family. And when Summer rolls round…you won’t be disappointed.

4.Watch some Cooking shows: You Tube has many Outdoor and Barbecue Cooking shows to bring your Cookout to the next level.

Spring is just around the corner. And if you start now and get your family involved in the planning, the Winter will just fly by! For this and other Inspirational Spring To Do Lists, check Instagram.
