Introducing You with the Taste of Indonesian: Nasi Goreng and Rendang

Indonesia is archipelago of 17,000 islands and its a distinguished country due to its mouth-watering foods, crystal clear waters, and pristine beaches. Ranging from simple rice, noodles and soups to street foods this country is considered as a home of delicious cuisines.

Where its breakfast, lunch or dinner time, you will see Nasi Goreng as a staple delight of Indonesian food table. This dish is considered as a signature food made up with fried rice topped with fried eggs, and bundle of other ingredients including: prawns, vegetables, chicken, and chilies. This fried rice is pre-cooked simply and then fried in cooking oil or margarine, spiced with soy sauce, garlic, tamarind, and ground shrimp paste. Another version of Nasi Goreng is also famous around the country which is made up with salted dried fish (ikan asin). This dish is not only favorite of whole Indonesia but Southeast Asian people also love to eat this delight. Due to is smoky, tempting, and aromatic flavors it has gained the popularity all around the world and became the national dish of Indonesia. CNN Internationals started an online poll in which Nasi Goreng stood second delicious dish in the list of “World’s Top 50 Most Delicious foods”.

                                                                   

Another dish from the pure land of Indonesia is Rendang. It is spicy meat dish which was introduced by the Minangkabau People but now it is widely served all around the country. Minangkabau community serve this dish on traditional festivals, ceremonies, Hari Raya, and wadding feasts. This dish is made with allot of aromatic spices, coconut milk, ginger paste, garlic, turmeric, shallot, chilies, and lemon grass.

All these ingredients are combined and then converted into a thick paste which is called pemasak. This dish is made in a slow cooking manner and takes hours to be done perfect until all liquid is dried out that is why its called Padang rendang. Due to this slow cooking method meat will be tendered perfectly and turns out super delicious. It is serves usually with simple steamed rice or with rice cake.
